Outdoor Education Activities
Activities include all necessary safety equipment. Please note that all BTOE lead activities are 60 minutes in length and are designed for groups of 15 to 20 students. Activities included in packages are available from 1:00pm on the first day to 12:00pm on the last day of your booking.
Orienteering: A basic orienteering course, students learn how to find their way around unfamiliar territory using a basic map and a compass.
Guided Hike: On a guided hike through the Burwalde Woods, students learn about the wildlife and nature around them.
Fire Building: Hands on learning will allow students to learn how to build a successful fire using products of nature.
Survival: From shelter building to basic survival skills students will learn some tips on how to survive in the wild.
Challenge & Trust: Teams of students work together to accomplish goals and establish teamwork. Activities include the human knot, trust fall, etc.
Scavenger Hunt: Becoming more aware of the nature surrounding us, small groups of students race around to find a list of objects from nature.
Outdoor Cooking: Students will try their hands at some simple over-the-fire cooking recipes including bannock while learning some basics about survival: what is edible and what to avoid.
Entomology Ecology: Take part in a quick study of creek and marsh habitats. Students get a chance to "fish" for bugs and learn how to identify different species.
Quinzee or Igloo Building: Learn basic techniques and design of quinzee or igloo building. An opportunity to construct your own winter getaway!
Wall Climbing/Zipline: Challenge yourself on our 30´ outdoor climbing wall and then enjoy a ride down on our 350´ Zipline. In winter, challenge yourself on our indoor rock-climbing wall. Located in the loft of the barn, it´s a 22´ climb to the top!
Horseback Riding: Learn some basics of horsemanship and take a trail ride through the woods.
Archery: Learn the basics of archery and test your skills on our archery range with some compound bows.
Ropes Course: Put yourself to the challenge swinging over the creek on the Tarzan Rope and trying our low obstacle course including the Burma Bridge and the Two-Line Bridge.
Bikes: Try out the challenging obstacle course and take a scenic ride through the grounds with our trail bikes.
Canoeing: Attain some practical canoeing knowledge and try out our scenic creek route.
Swimming: Jump into our 7 acre man made lake and check out our large beach and 25' Water Trampoline! Other features include beach volleyball and sand castle building equipment.
Group Games: Choose from a variety of classic games including Prisoner´s Base, Mission Impossible, Royal Roll and more.
